Bent on stealing Henri Faust's soul, Lucifer's envoy Mephisto approaches the distinguished aging professor. Mephisto gives Faust a taste of youth, glory and wealth then snatches it all away. Henri signs the pact with the devil to relive the experience. The love of a young gypsy woman will save Henri's soul as an angry crowd closes in on Mephisto, deprived of his Master's protection.
