Désiré, an impeccable, stylish valet, is hired by a young actress. Although she is apparently attracted to him, he will not defy social convention without a formal request to do so. He does not become the lover of his charming 'mistress' and hands in his apron to avoid the entanglement. He leaves the young woman with a few words of wisdom on the pursuit of happiness.
