René Gaudin, a test pilot, has just beaten the world speed record. He invites Hélène Boucher who sells hats on the Champs Elysées, to take her first flight. It is quite a revelation for her. With the help of the staff at the airfield, she takes her pilot's license and goes on to beat the women's, then the overall world speed records.
